VITAL
The fear of fire.
Exploding pumice thumps down.
A river of rolling lava settles in a creek bed and hardens, turning sand into glass.
Our ancestors watch and think.
They melt copper and bronze and their leather-covered fingers tickle rivulets into sculpted moulds, forming axes and knives.
PolyOnyx and recycled aluminium inspire new processes.
The future of fabrication.
- LeCuvier
In collaboration with Maxwell Carr and Indigo Tolhurst, VITAL presents a glimpse into a not-so-distant future, where humanity exhausts natural resources and turns to waste as our primary source of materials. Landfills transform into quarries, ocean plastic islands are powerplants, and all carbon is captured and fed back into the supply chain. Metals and plastics, once discarded, are now prized commodities.
In acknowledgment of this future and the rising value of waste, the processes used to create VITAL embrace freedom and self-governance. Materials define their own characteristics, shaping their own destiny. They flow through molds, creating unique textures and breaking free from traditional forms. Waste has become indispensable—a VITAL resource.
